Mega Man Not Ready to Brawl... Yet.
For the moment, Sonic's filling the "blue third party character" quota.
December 22, 2007 | 2:31 PM PST

People eager to play Super Smash Bros. Brawl are about to get a case of the blues... or actually, maybe they aren't.

With the arrival of such stalwart third-party combatants such as Sonic and Solid Snake, many were hoping that another icon from days of old, whose history is largely intertwined with that of Nintendo, would appear in the form of a Mega Man. Sadly, that would seem not to be the case... at least, not yet. Maybe if his name began with "S" instead...

As reported by The Mega Man Network and others, the "father" of the Blue Bomber, Keiji Inafune, appeared on Capcom's Bionic Commando "Top Secret" podcast on the 17th, the day of Mega Man's anniversary, and one fan was able to put the question of a Mega Man's inclusion to the Man of Mega himself.

"Well, I really do love Super Smash Bros. It's a great series…but, Nintendo hasn't asked me yet if they can use Mega Man in their game. I'm still waiting…we have a little bit of time left, it's not coming out for another few months. They might get around to asking us if we'd like to put Mega Man in Super Smash Bros. Maybe if somebody from Nintendo is listening to this podcast, they'll give me a call."

So, for the time being, there's no Mega Man in Brawl, though that could always change... over the course of the next month or so, anyway.
Editor's Take: Of course, those who've speculated upon the title and a Mega Man appearance have also asked, "which one would it be?" Everyone has an opinion, of course, and it's unlikely that they'd all appear. Would they go with the original, who Capcom doesn't even seem to make games for any more? Or one of the new guys? If so, which new guy?

Of course, this could just be blowing smoke; there's a good chance that even if a Mega Man were in, he wouldn't say anything until Sakurai's blog, the Smash Bros. Dojo, were updated with it, or the game came out, whichever comes first.

Or, to stretch likelyhood... Capcom has gone over Inafune's head before when it comes to making plans for Mega Man (see: Mega Man X6), so there's an outside chance that a Mega Man could be in there, and Inafune doesn't even know it yet.
