While Microsoft is knockin' 'em dead in Europe, Nintendo of Canada has revealed today that, following yesterday's report, the Wii is the top selling current-generation (they say "next," but I think most of us are past that) platform in the Great White North, with lifetime sales of 813,000 units since its November 2006 launch.
"Since launch, the Wii console has consistently been a top seller in the Canadian market," said Darrel Ryce, Director for The NPD Group, Inc. "Seventeen months after the launch of the system and it still remains one of the hottest items at retail, selling out almost as quickly as it hits retail shelves."
Other figures included in the release are that the Wii was the top seller for 13 of the past 17 months, with Wii Play becoming the biggest title in the market. Super Mario Galaxy, meanwhile, scored number three across all platforms, with Super Smash Bros. Brawl moving nearly 200,000 units in March, making it the number one selling title in 2008.
They also note that, while the demand for the Wii is unprecedented (they even sell them in drug stores here, when available), the Nintendo DS remains the number one ass-kicker in Canada.
