Almost a year after the initial release of Manhunt 2 in the United States, the BBFC has finally allowed the game to be released in the United Kingdom. It looks like some of the scenes of grizzled violence will be further toned down from the American version, in their increased efforts to pass classification. The game will be hitting store shelves on Halloween of this year, according to Joystiq:
"Readers currently residing in the United Kingdom -- your wait is over. At long last, you'll be able to experience one of 2007's best selling, most critically acclaimed titles -- Rockstar's controversial thriller, Manhunt 2. After being turned down by the British Board of Film Classification for its "unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone," a reworked, SFEurope version of the game will be launched in the UK for the Wii, PS2 and PSP on October 31." -- JoystiqAfter playing through both the original and the sequel, I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Manhunt 2 actually seems toned down in comparison to the first iteration, which passed BBFC approval with no problems. The fact that they added filters to all the murder scenes seemed to neuter the game enough, but it makes one wonder what else has been left on the cutting room floor. This still begs the question, almost a year after its US release, is the game even relevant anymore?
