January 14, 2009 | 4:54 PM PST
Wow, the rumors are really flying hard and fast today. This one stands to be too good to be true.
But over on IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat Podcast, it seems that there is talk of at least one online Wii game abolishing the scourge of gamers everywhere: The Friend Code.
In the latest podcast over at the IGN Nintendo team, Editor-in-Chief Matt Casamassina let slip of an upcoming third-party Wii game that would release in 2009 which would not use friend codes, for the reason that the developer simply did not want to utilise them. The game being referred to has already been announced, and is allegedly a "major online title".
No official confirmation of which game will leap-frog Nintendo's infamous safety-system, or how in fact it will do it, but speculation is already rife that it could be High Voltage's already-acclaimed FPS, The Conduit. -- N-Europe
Joystiq has confirmed via a source familiar with the title's development that it does, in fact, utilize the Friend Code system, and isn't the game in question. So, what is it then? Let the speculation commence. -- Joystiq
...don't look at me; I have no idea which upcoming title would be so bold, if it's not The Conduit.
