Cookie-Cramming Boyfriend Attempts to Strangle Girlfriend with Wii Remote Cord
February 5, 2009 | 1:03 PM PST

When Nyko first revealed their wireless Nunchuk controller for Nintendo's Wii, there were some skeptics. "Is having a cord really that big a deal?" was the question some would ask.

Well, in the latest ridiculous story that has helped contribute to making video game websites look like fansites for America's Most Wanted, it looks like Nyko may have at least one convert, after her boyfriend tried to choke her with the cord from the device.

In Austin, Texas, Daniel Alvarez was awoken by Christina Alvarado after she discovered that all of her girl scout cookies had been eaten. Upset at his slumber being disturbed, he did the only logical thing: he put her in a choke hold. After several seconds of that, the affidavit says Alvarado elbowed him in the eye in order to break free.

Their struggle continued into the living room, where Alvarez reportedly grabbed the Wii controller, and after pinning her by putting his knees to her chest, used the device to strangle her.

Thankfully, she was able to get free and call 911, soon leading to Alvarez's arrest. According to the affidavit, "Alvarado had a faint mark from a cord around her neck, shortness of breath, trouble speaking and was coughing when police arrived."

Now, Alvarez is in the county jail with no cookies, no Wii, no girlfriend (though I'm sure someone there might be willing to accommodate), and a $40,000 bail with second degree felony charges that could see him put away for 20 years.

All over a damn box of cookies that probably weren't even that good anyway. Hardly seems worth it to me.
