10K Gold and Diamond Mario Pendant on eBay for Seven Grand, Fudges Detail
February 13, 2009 | 4:34 PM PST

What you see before you is a 10K yellow gold and diamond Mario pendant, sitting on eBay and waiting for someone to drop $6,999.99 on it (and shipping is free). The auction says the retail/insurance value is $11,857.00, and I'm a little skeptical about that, but I know jack about jewelery, so I'll let that slide.
But it's seeing things like this that make me wonder if someone who could easily afford something of this expense is even all that interested in video games to begin with. Then again, I bet maybe a Reggie or a Miyamoto could afford it, but I'm not sure if they're exactly the kind of person the seller would want paying attention to this.
But the worst part? The initial on the hat is all wrong. "MR?" The hell? If I were to drop seven grand on an unlicensed piece of jewelery, it had better damn well get the details right, and I mean all of them.
You can see the auction in all its glory here, complete with lots of pretty pictures. At least until someone in Nintendo's legal department catches wind of it.
