For those excited for the launch of Icarian: Kindred Spirits, you may be disappointed since that game no longer exists. That is, it will no longer come out as its previous title; instead the game has been renamed NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits. In a statement, Over the Top Games gave reason for the name change by saying,
For important reasons, outside our control, the team at OVER THE TOP GAMES, have been forced to change the name of "Icarian: Kindred Spirits", our first game for WiiWare. After extensive deliberation we concluded that this decision was the most convenient both for our company, and for the game. This is why our game will now be called "NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits
Dang, thats some pretty intense talk for a game that looks a lot like Kid Icarus. Maybe Nintendo put the pressure on to change the title? Curiously enough, just a little while after the response was released, they wrote on their Twitter, saying:
Thanks to Nintendo for all the support they are giving to us and our game. This has NOTHING to do with Kid Icarus.
So, that's a little odd. Kid Icarus was not mentioned in their statement, and what other "important reasons" could their be to change the name, other than the fact that the WiiWare title looks like a Kid Icarus game. In addition, it seems a little out of place to thank Nintendo after they change the name. Maybe it's more like "Thanks Nintendo! We really appreciate you letting us release this game with only changing our title and not having to rework the entire game." Whatever the case may be, the release is still yet to be announced.
