Triangle Studios announces Heron: Steam Machine for WiiWare
July 3, 2009 | 8:22 PM PST

by: Andrew Adam

For those who remember Pipe Dream on the NES fondly, Dutch developer Triangle Studios has a WiiWare game just for you.

On July 3 they announced Heron: Steam Machine, which is a "pipe puzzle format" game. Connect the pipes to keep the steam machine going and move on to the next level. Simple concept, hard to master most likely if the game is like any great puzzler. Being a WiiWare game, a release date for the title is unknown as Nintendo usually keeps the release schedule hidden.

WiiWare has been a place for series revivals like Mega Man and Adventure Island, and even though this isn't a true re-imagining of the NES classic, it has the same look to it. And as a nice bonus, there will be four player multiplayer to be had, along with leaderboards.

Hopefully online features will come, but this is game to keep an eye on for those who love games that bring back memories of generations past.

Check out the official press release below:

Dutch independent game developer Triangle Studios is proud to announce Heron: Steam Machine for the WiiWare™ service.

Heron: Steam Machine is Triangle Studios' take on the pipe puzzle format. In Heron: Steam Machine, players have to connect pipes to keep the Steam Machine running. Play in singleplayer or co-op with friends for huge amounts of puzzle fun! The gameplay mechanic is simple and addictive, anybody can learn to play Heron within minutes, but only experts are able to achieve the highest scores.

The story:
For many years, a mechanic named Ron has been working at the factory for Rubber Duckies. One day, the owner of the factory decided to retire, and leave the family business to his evil son, who has different plans with the factory altogether. The evil son doubled production targets for the factory, and as a result, Ron has to work at least twice as hard to keep up with the high demands of his new boss. The player has to help Ron out in the factory, and together they face the challenge of keeping the Steam Machine from breaking down!

Multiplayer:
Multiplayer is an important feature in Heron: Steam Machine. The Wii™ console is all about having fun with family and friends. In Heron: Steam Machine, players have to co-operate and connect each one of the pipes at the same time. Can you work as a team in perfect harmony? Test your skills in the Multiplayer mode of Heron: Steam Machine.

Key features:
* Addictive single- and multiplayer fun for all ages.
* High quality 2D Graphics.
* Upbeat soundtrack.
* Multiple highscore listings.
* For up to 4 players.
