We've heard Miyamoto speak of a first-person Zelda in the past, but I wonder if what he had in mind was anything like this?
1up's Retronauts Blog, quite enthusiastic about the prospect of the original LoZ reborn in the first person, takes an even more in-depth look at the origins of the project, which reveals the application of Zelda textures and maps to a 3D engine called Standard Waiver.
And while it looks cool, it seems to have a few kinks to be worked out, such as the "stubby" reach of Link's sword (once he's no longer able to fire it) or the difficulty in judging distances. Despite these complications, however, it seems the intent is for this to be developed further so that it will include all the dungeons, and even the overworld (ah, remember when it was called that?).
"Fortunately," 1up writes, "Nintendo tends to turn a blind eye to harmless projects like this, which means it stands a better-than-average possibility of actually panning out into a finished product."
