A Guide to the Game Genie for the NES
October 2, 2009 | 4:03 PM PST
Once upon a time, it seemed as though "game enhancement" peripherals were all the rage. First came the Game Genie for pretty much every system made by Nintendo or SEGA during the 8 and 16-bit eras, and that soon gave way to GameSharks and Action Replays in subsequent generations.
But lately, it seems like the devices have faded from prominence. Sure, they've made them for the Wii and 360, but they don't seem to have the same demand they once did, for some reason. I even got my DS Action Replay (which has yet to be opened, but MegaMan Battle Network 5 Double Team DS has had me seriously considering it) on clearance years ago.
Well, in this video Rinry (of "How to Make NES Games Work!" fame) takes us back to the time when the Game Genie was king, and shows what it could do to some of our old favorites:
I rarely, if ever, used the Game Genie to conquer a game in my youth, but I did certainly have my share of fun by doing crazy things in a number of games.
You can find more of Rinry at her personal site, and as you can tell by the start of the video, it looks like GoNintendo has snatched her up for more video content, at least on the Nintendo side. Good deal.
