G4 has posted almost nine minutes of unseen gameplay from the upcoming Silent Hill Shattered Memories for the Wii. The footage shows even more of what Climax Studios is doing with the interface in the new game.
One of the first noticeable things in this video is the menu interface, which coupled with the filter that sometimes covers the game screen, looks like the player is operating a VCR. Everything else on the Wii version, as previously confirmed by Climax, seems to revolve around the IR pointer which mainly serves as a flashlight. In this video, at night almost nothing seems to be visible outside of the flashlight's range. This could end up being annoying or add tension to a series known for oppressing atmosphere.
At one point in the video after exiting a house, the player comes upon a street sign pointing to three locations. In previous Silent Hill games the player probably would've had to press an action button up against the sign to see what it said. In the Shattered Memories video however, the text was readable enough to simply be looked at through the main camera.
Also concerning gameplay, this video shows possibly the longest segment of "otherworld" gameplay seen for Shattered Memories where the environment changed and enemies appeared. Almost the entirety of several minutes was spent being chased by enemies before the player arrived in a small cabin and things settled down but remained in "otherworld."
Regarding the storyline, only one tidbit was shown in the video. In the middle, protagonist Harry Mason gets a call from Officer Bennett asking where he is. Mason seems confused and completely out of touch with what Bennett is talking about, suggesting his state of mind.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories is supposed to come out for the Wii, PS2, and PSP during the first week of November.
