Rumor: Another Mario Game in the Works?
October 19, 2009 | 4:07 PM PST

Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis March Again. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

If you're a fan of Nintendo's number-one red-capped plumbing superstar, then you have certainly not been left wanting this year (did we mention the New Play Control! version of Mario Power Tennis?), and things appear to be going well into next, as Super Mario Galaxy 2 still looms on the horizon. But it appears that there may yet be another Mario game in development.

On what is purported to be the Twitter of Charles Martinet, the voice actor behind Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and their infant incarnations, the following posts were recently made:

12:48 PM Oct 10th: Mama Mia!!!! I'm going to Seattle this week to record a new Mario game! Woo Hooo!!!!! I can hardly wait!!!!1

8:44 PM Oct 12th: Big day tomorrow! Seattle for a new Mario game! Yippee!!! And just as a joke, it's going to rain....in San Francisco tomorrow!

10:56 AM Oct 17th: Awesome new Mario Game! And it's not NSMB Wii, and it's not Galaxy 2, but it's going to be crazy fun!

What could it be? A new Paper Mario, one can hope-- preferably one that's a little less "Super" than the last, if you catch my drift. Great game, but I prefer the classic PM experience.

Or maybe we're finally getting a Mario Golf Wii. Any other guesses? Is it too much to hope for a new Mario Kart that improves on the last?

As for the "purported" part before, it remains unknown if this Twitter is the real deal or not; GoNintendo points out that the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine replied to him, wishing him well on the recording session, and it seems every other site is taking it as legit. When asked about it among some other business (more on that later), however, Martinet did not comment on whether or not this was his Twitter.

And having seen some people impersonate celebrities on Twitter, well, we're taking this with a healthy dose of skepticism, but not so much that we refuse to believe it could be the real thing. It certainly seems legit.

That said, here's something just a little ironic for you:

10:57 AM Oct 17th: Monday I do a trailer for Ratchett & Clank. I play Orvus in the game... I'll work from SF and the director will be in LA- ISDN is great!

So this would have Martinet working on top franchises for both Nintendo and Sony. If he can find his way into Fable or Halo, then he'll become a real triple-threat!
