Ubisoft Praises Assassin's Creed II Sales, Pins Blame for Losses on Wii Titles

Ubisoft's financial reports have no doubt seen better days.
In today's earnings call, Ubisoft spoke well of its big-name titles, such as Assassin's Creed II's first week sales being up 32 percent. This, "with positive initial indications for the second week, combined with an overwhelmingly warm reception from gamers, validates our strategy of developing bigger franchises."
Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot reportedly brings up the well-being of Assassin's Creed II as he shines high expectations on Splinter Cell: Conviction and James Cameron's Avatar: The Game. Unfortunately, however, he did not have as much good to say about the company's Wii titles as he lavished his praise on the bigger names:
"Based on this initial data, Assassin's Creed 2 looks well positioned to outstrip targets while our Wii games have got off to a more contrasted start in a less predictable market. Finally, sales of James Cameron's Avatar : The Game should benefit from the launch of the movie which is expected to be the biggest blockbuster of this holiday season."
"Overall," Kotaku reports, "the financials were down all around, with a large drop in sales and an operating loss of €78 million [$117 million], mainly due to poor Wii game performance and a lighter release schedule."
GoNintendo makes a good observation: "I can't name any Ubisoft Wii titles that were really worth paying attention to, other than Rabbids Go Home. Am I missing out on something?"
Well, there is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up, which is a bit subjective, but other than that? Red Steel 2 was pushed back into 2010, so I can't really think of much.
